Sources of funding
The school receives R17 per child per day from the Western Cape Education Department. 2015 is the first year that this subsidy will include children in the pre-R classes. In 2013, the grant covered 52% of operating expenses.
School fees of R100 per child per month are charged but only an estimated 70% of parents can afford to pay.
The school is reliant on funding from individual donors and various groups and companies. The school also organises fundraising events.

Umnqophiso is a not-for-profit company (registration number 2002/003537/07) incorporated in terms of the Companies Act.
The school’s Governing Body includes representatives from parents, staff and sponsoring organisations. The school is managed on a day-to-day basis by the Principal (Victoria Mangqwengqwe). There is an active Parent Liaison Committee.
Umnqophiso follows a curriculum that allows the children to build steadily on skills and concepts in the areas of Home Language, Mathematics and Life Skills.
